Closet cleanout

imageThis past weekend I participated in a closet cleanout with proceeds going to a cancer charity. I am pretty sure I gave away at least 60% and it felt so good! I love the feeling that purging can manifest. I will admit that it can be hard to clean out your house or your closet. We attach memories and emotions to things, to objects. Things become souvenirs, A souvenir (from French, for a remembrance or memory),[1] memento, keepsake, or token of remembrance[1] is an object a person acquires for the memories the owner associates with it.   And we do that with clothes, not just nick nacks and vacation purchases. We justify keeping something because of who we were with, where we were, what we were doing and how we felt. Emotions and good memories are stirred up and we hang onto things for those memories not because we use those items or wear those clothes but because of those feelings.  Gotta let them go because what happens is we keep stuff and hoard and I don’t know about other people but for me, when I hang onto stuff for those reasons, it prevents me from moving on and growing.  We say we want to feel that way again so we hang onto the item instead of making new memories. Also many of us probably think….unfortunately …..that we will fit into that again or feel beautiful enough and love ourself enough to put that item on again. Sad really, don’t need clothes for that, need to change our way of thinking because things only make us happy short term and looking hot in an outfit is awesome but can be achieved by many different articles of clothing, makeup, hair, etc but to really radiate beauty and glow with confidence you don’t need all that stuff, what you need is to love yourself, embrace your spirit, rock it with confidence and really see yourself through the eyes of your friends, your spouse, your family.  I know for a fact that to see oneself through the lens of a loved one is to see yourself as beautiful!
